“Mindfulness” is embraced in the Denver area. Along with yoga and Tai Chi, these practices are helpful to alleviate anxiety and stress. They stem from Eastern traditions of meditation with focus on the present tense (known as “here and now”, carpe diem, living in the moment, etc.) Emphasis on the present tense supports those who tend to ruminate about past events with guilt and sorrow or those who worry about possible pending events (the future).

Gladys and Christine offer a variety of disciplines using ideas from different psychologies, e.g., stress management, trauma, gestalt, cognitive behavior, person centered, art therapy, solution focused and positive psychology.

They have been in private practice for a combination of 20 years. Their work as mental health consultants in partnership with physicians in five local emergency rooms has exposed them to all types of problems. Unknown to the public, thousands of lives are either saved or guided in a positive direction by psychiatric emergency department professionals.

Some people are afraid about hearing voices, others are embroiled in a family quarrel, some consider self harm, some have panic attacks worrying about a heart attack. Many emergency room admissions are triggered by worry or a clash of values. Children have depression and anxiety like adults with similar emotional upheavals. For them, art therapy is an effective communication tool.

Urgent appointments can be handled on an outpatient basis thereby eliminating unnecessary costly and time consuming emergency room visits. They teach you how to navigate the often complicated mental health system.
